Modelling in 1" Scale

This is the same scale as the average commercial dollhouse, so there are lots of accessories available. Most of the buildings in my little town are scratch-built, with details often purchased at miniature, or dollhouse stores. These buildings were built by Paul Gauthier who you will be speaking to if you phone us. In the future we plan to supply building kits constructed of a 1/8" plastic that paint will adhere to and, weathers very well.

The water tower actually holds water, and we use it to fill the tenders on live steam locomotives. I can't tell you how neat it is to have functioning models such as the water tower. The engine is a Little Engines 0-6-0, and the caboose is scratch built from wood.

The more detailed little people are one of a kind dolls made by Jodi and Richard Creager of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Other people are from dollhouse stores and I often modify them as Victorian styles of clothing are mostly what's available.

As a modeller working in a specific scale, you will find that searching for those special details will make shopping with your wife more fun, as you are always looking for interesting things in unusual places.

Once, we were shopping in a fancy collectible shop in San Diego, and I spotted some pewter railroad characters which were just the right size, but they were all metal and unpainted. I asked the clerk how well they took paint, and the tall, dignified fellow looked horrified!! "Sir, you do not paint these! They are limited edition collectibles, and painting them would ruin their value!"

Well, if you are a modeller, you know what happened. They took the paint very well!! (that is the 4 of them on the left between the two locomotives)

The yellow Fairmont speeder is scratch-built using 1/8" plastic and a remote control car chassis, and needless to say is operated remotely.

1" scale is fun because you can ride, model in great detail, and the challenges are unending.
